Our schools need  layers of security

To the editor:

Our schools need layers of security to restrict access to the inside of the buildings. It is easier to get into a school than into a factory making soda or almost anything you can think of.

Workplaces long ago adopted layers of security such as fences, guard houses and key card access as ways to keep out people who do not belong there. Why are our schools not surrounded by chainlink fences, with a limited access point? Why isn’t there a security guard screening visitors? Why isn’t there full-time surveillance monitoring the exits, halls and grounds of our schools?

Factories making soda or sausages do this, but not our schools. Don’t the kids deserve the same level of security that a cupcake does?
