Many work to provide area church meals

To the editor:

A recent letter to the edtior in the Gazette praising Bob Saalfrank and the MANNA Soup Kitchen was a deserved tribute and is greatly appreciated.

Just for the record, a few details in that letter need to be corrected.

First, while Bob Saalfrank, as program coordinator and chef, does seem like a one-man show, he is backed up by a staff and a Board of Directors besides the volunteers. Second, MANNA has been operating for over 26 years and serves meals in only two churches, St. John’s Episcopal and Edwards.

Third, MANNA is not directly associated with Cathedral in the Night at the First Churches on Sunday evenings. When Cathedral in the Night started two years ago, MANNA provided a lot of the meals. Now, several churches, organizations and groups provide most of the meals.
