Easthampton Post 224 comes back, beats Amherst Post 148

Easthampton Post 224 overcame a two-run deficit in the seventh to walk off with a 10-9 American Legion victory over Amherst Post 148, Tuesday in Easthampton.

Adam Krol hit a grounder to shortstop and an overthrow at first plated the tying and winning runs.

Brandon Weyant had two hits and two runs, while Justin Edinger added three runs for Easthampton (4-6).

Brett Morrison had an RBI single and two runs, while Tim Pruner scored twice and added a stolen base for Amherst (3-5).

Little League (9-10)

Amherst 4, Westfield American 3 — Liam Coughlin’s two-run single in the fifth gave Amherst the lead as it held on for the District 2 Tournament pool-play win.

Coughlin plated Ryan Leonard and Alex Irizarry with the hit. Zach Sexton’s two-run single in the second scored Shire Thompson and Kevin Dooley to give Amherst a 2-0 lead.

Ben Oates struck out five and earned the win in 21/3 innings of no-hit relief.

Belchertown 16, Agawam 3 (5) — Tyler Laramee went 3 for 4, scored three runs and earned the win on the mound as Belchertown (1-0) opened tournament play with a blowout home victory.

Ryan O’Neil and Michael Gilbert each had two hits and two runs for Belchertown.

Gina Camerota started and struck out five over the first two innings. Laramee also fanned five in 22/3.

A relay from right fielder Matt Tilton to Laramee at shortstop to catcher Ryan Zawistowski cut down a runner trying to score in the first.

Mickey Mantle

Northampton 4, Deerfield 1 — A three-run top of the seventh made a winner of Northampton (9-2) pitcher Cody Cleveland, who fired a complete-game 3-hitter with six strikeouts on the road.

Garrett Connly (run) and Jesse Carlino Threlfall (RBI, run) began the seventh with consecutive doubles. Tylor McCallumore (run) and Kyle Warren followed with RBI singles. Ian Ostberg also had a pair of hits.

Noah Barnes’ single knocked in Nate Patterson for Deerfield (9-1). Stevie Bruscoe and Derek Zewinski added a hit apiece, while Patterson struck out nine in four innings.

Tri-County League

Manny’s 5, Easthampton Savings Bank 1 — Kyle Murphy singled and scored on an error in the first, but that was it for ESB (5-4-1) in the road loss.

Jeremy Tanguay went 2 for 3, with Joe Jachym and Matt Robinson adding a hit apiece.

Easthampton 7, Springfield Celtics 2 — Sisters Haley (3 for 3) and Kayla (3 for 4, two doubles) McFarland each scored twice to lead Easthampton (6-0) to the road win.

Nikki Lewandowski (run) and Ashley Walch added two hits apiece, while Summer Cavanaugh had 10 strikeouts in the complete-game victory.
