As directions go, it was pretty straightforward: using a generous number of three-by-five index cards — but only ten inches of tape — build a structure at least ten inches high that would support the weight of a child’s “stuffie.” Such was the “engineering challenge” taken up by several kids at the Meekins Library in Williamsburg last Saturday morning. Children’s Programming Librarian Susan Cornell sought to encourage the 3-to-10-year-old budding builders — and their parents — as their creations collapsed time and again before ultimately succeeding.
