The Northampton King & Cushman American Legion baseball team broke through in a big way Wednesday evening.

Post 28 pounded out 16 hits while batting around in both the second and sixth innings to pick up its second win of the season, beating Longmeadow 16-2 at Arcanum Field.

Tim Horton (three hits) and Keith Natale (two hits) each drove in two runs and scored twice for Hamp (2-8). Mikey Thomson (two doubles) had three hits, two runs and RBI, with Joe Afflitto adding an RBI and run on two hits.

Tony Pedruczny (run) and Christian Smiarowski also knocked in a pair, and Steven Joyce (RBI) had two runs scored.

Winning pitcher Sam Walker allowed seven hits and struck out seven.

Springfield 6, Easthampton 3 (6) — Kyle Richard and Justin Edinger combine for five of Easthampton’s eight hits before lightening ended the game in the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded for Post 224 (4-7).

Richards added an RBI and two runs scored and Edinger had one of each in the loss.

West Springfield 10, Belchertown 1 — Ryan Swarts (RBI) and Nick Kubacki had the only hits for Post 239 (2-7) in the road loss.

Joey Mack scored the lone run for Belchertown.

Little League

District 2 (11-12)

Northampton Blue 4, Gateway 1 — Orion McLain picked up a complete-game victory and Patrick Serio had two hits and two RBIs as Northampton Blue (1-0) won at home.

Westfield American 14, Northampton Gold 1 (5) — Kahil Supinski singled and scored in the second inning for Northampton’s lone run in the opening-loss at home.
