Thursday’s high schools: Amherst Regional field hockey dumps Agawam

The Amherst Regional field hockey team avenged an early season drubbing with a 1-0 victory over Agawam at home Thursday night.

Juliana Brisette scored in the second half as the Hurricanes (3-7-2, 1-6-0 South) knocked off the same Brownies (8-2-4, 1-2-2) team that earned a 6-0 victory in the teams’ season opener on Sept. 5.

The goal came 25 minutes into the second half and was assisted by Maisy Sylvan.

Nadia Squitiero made 10 saves for Amherst.

Northampton 3, West Springfield 0 — Emily Allcroft scored twice and Reilly Griffin had one tally as the Blue Devils (11-1-3) cruised at home.

Missie Maiewski had two assists, while Emily Poehlein had one. Mary Greco made two saves in the shutout.

East Longmeadow 0, South Hadley 0 — Liz Menard made fours saves, as the Tigers (4-7-2, 3-2-1 Central) played to a scoreless draw on the road with the Spartans (2-6-7, 2-1-4).

Boys soccer

Northampton 1, Agawam 1 — Jordan Maurer scored in the second half for the Blue Devils (4-7-4, 1-3-3 Churchill Moriarty) at home.

Casey Intrator assisted on the goal, which came 11 minutes into the half.

The Brownies (4-4-6, 2-2-3) scored with three minutes left to salvage the tie.

Jack Haller made five saves for Northampton, which must win its final three games to make the playoffs.

Pioneer Regional 2, Holyoke Catholic 0 — Tom Heavren made seven saves as the Gaels (6-5-4, 1-4-2 McGrath South) fell at home.

Granby 0, Greenfield 0 — Brett Sullivan made five saves and James Cupak played well on defense for the Rams (5-5-5, 3-3 McGrath North) at home.

Midfielders Tim BaiRossi and Andy Strycharz played well for Granby.

Southwick 1, South Hadley 0 — Eric Maryea made 14 saves, but the Tigers (8-4-3, 4-2-3 Holley) lost on the road.

Girls soccer

South Hadley 3, Putnam 0 — Three first-half goals by the Tigers (3-8-2) were enough, as they cruised on the road.

GiGi Thibault, Meghan Ginley and Aryn Banas each tallied in the first half. Tess Gauthier and Nicole Casolari registered assists.

Alexis Gawron saved one shot.

Girls volleyball

Easthampton 3, Sci-Tech 0 — Elizabeth Whitney turned in an all-around performance in the road win for the Eagles (13-2, 6-1 Central).

Whitney collected seven kills, three digs and one assist, as her team beat the Cybercats (5-10, 2-5) 25-11, 25-22, 25-23.

Rachena Nhem dished out 11 assists and added two digs, while Mary Gyeidu had two kills and three assists.

South Hadley 3, Pioneer Christian 1 — The Tigers (9-4, 2-3 Central) bounced back after a first set loss and claimed the next three, as they beat the Eagles (2-14, 0-6) at home 15-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-23.

Katie Robitaille and Sarah LaRochelle each had four aces, while Maddie Kelleher collected six kills.

With the win, South Hadley qualified for the playoffs.
