Westhampton man injured in Easthampton accident
EASTHAMPTON — A Westhampton man was injured in a two-car crash on Route 141 at the base of Mount Tom just before 8 a.m. Monday.
David Avakian, 53, of 99 Chesterfield Road, was treated and released from Holyoke Medical Center, a hospital spokesperson said.
Police Sgt. Bruce Nicol said a vehicle driven by Joshua Stephens, 25, of 110R Hendrick St., attempted to turn left from Hendrick Street onto Route 141, also called Holyoke Street, when a vehicle traveling north stopped to let him go. Stephens then turned into the path of Avakian, who was traveling south on Route 141 and the vehicles collided. The accident was almost head-on, Nicol said, and both vehicles sustained heavy front-end damage.
No citations had been issued by Monday afternoon as a result of the accident, he said.
The rush-hour accident caused delays for many commuters, including those who use Route 141 to access I-91 in Holyoke.
