Monday’s girls soccer: Smith Academy holds off Holyoke Catholic
The Smith Academy girls soccer team scored on a set play then used its defense to hold off Holyoke 1-0 in Hatfield Monday.
McKenzie Wilson curled the ball in on a corner kick 11 minutes into the second half and the Falcons’ defense stood strong in the shutout.
Brooke Pashek made eight saves, including three down the stretch for Smith Academy (7-2-0, 3-0-0 Pioneer South), which played without injured 100-goal scorer Cassidy Snyder.
Wilson, Anna Soles and Carley Pedruzny played well on defense in the win.
Katie Klejna made five saves for the Gaels (3-2-3, 1-1-2).
Hampshire Regional 4, Central 0 — The Hotham sisters combined for three goals as the Raiders (7-1-1) continued their winning ways in Springfield.
Liz Hotham scored the first two tallies for Hampshire, while Catherine Hotham tallied the third after Erin Bishop found her on the far post on a throw-in.
Bishop, Bri Weltlich and Anna Dziok all picked up one assist. Madison Boucher and Kayla LaBrecque each played a half and made two saves apiece.
Amherst 3, Palmer 2 — Sage DeChiara scored two goals as the Hurricanes (3-3-2) won at home against the Panthers.
Kailey Tobin and Rosie Black also scored, while Jamie Staples, DeChiara and Madison Fluekiger each had one assist. Keeper Becca Carkhuff made seven saves for the win.
Granby 2, Easthampton 0 — Jenn Cadigan and Erin Mikalchus each scored, while Tara Mikalchus and Kiley Baran each had one assist as the Rams (8-0) remained undefeated with the win against the Eagles (6-1-2) at home.
Brittnay Hauschild made seven saves for the shutout. Eagles keeper Alyssa Fugiel made 11 saves.
Gateway 4, Ware 0 — Jessica Van Heynigan scored twice, each time assisted by Alyssa Moreau, as the Gators (6-1-2) shutout the Indians in Huntington.
Kendall Rooney and Montgomery Moses also scored, while Caroline Booth had an assist.
Keepers Sarah Otterbeck and Becca Herman played a half each but did not make any saves.
