Matt Iczkowski, Granby struggle at state Division 2 golf tournament
Matt Iczkowski had a disappointing outing at the State Division 2 Golf Tournament Monday.
The Southwick resident and Holyoke Catholic senior shot an 11-over-par 81 and finished outside the top 10 at Beverly Tennis and Golf Club.
“Matt didn’t play well,” Granby coach Tom Burke said. “Winning Western Mass. two years in a row and finishing fifth last year at states, we were thinking he could win this.”
The Rams finished 10th out of 12 teams with a score of 364 in the best 4-of-6 scoring format. Complete results were not available Monday night.
Shane Hollenbeck had an 88 and Ben Modzelesky added a 96. Katy McLaflin and Jesse Molin each shot 99, but only one counted toward the team score.
Kara O’Driscoll also competed and fired a 101 for Granby.
Division 1
Brian Bak of South Hadley was the lone individual competing at Norton Country Club in Norton.
Bak shot a 86 (43-43) to fall 14 behind champion Jake Shuman of Needham. Shuman (37-35—72) won by three shots of Matt Robinson of BC High.
BC High took the team title with a 315, 25 shots better than Brookline.
