Friday’s high school golf: South hadley’s Sierra Hebert wins Western Mass. Girls Individual Championship

It was a challenging day on the course, but in the end, South Hadley senior Sierra Hebert won the Western Massachusetts Girls Individual Championship with an 85 at Worthington Golf Club, Friday.

Hebert recovered following two double bogeys on the front nine en route to a 44. She came back with a 41 on the back nine.

“She had a tough start,” South Hadley golf coach Jim Gavron said. “But she really calmed down and had a consistent next round.”

Danielle Lapierre of St. Joseph’s was second with an 87. Longmeadow’s Dana O’Connor was third with an 88.

“Going in, I felt that she had a strong chance to finish in the top three,” Gavron said of Hebert. “To see her come out on top after playing in the rain was a pleasant surprise.”
