Wednesday’s colleges: Nick Shaheen of Williamsburg nets game winner for Trinity lacrosse
Williamsburg native Nick Shaheen scored the game-winning goal with 1 minute, 13 seconds left in overtime as the Trinity men’s lacrosse team beat Amherst College 17-16 in Hartford, Conn., Wednesday.
Shaheen finished with three goals and one assist for the Bantams (5-10).
Jeff Izzo had three goals, while Quinn Moroney, Devin Acton and Patrick Moroney each had two goals for the Lord Jeffs (5-9).
Trinity 11, Amherst 6 — Meghan Mills had two goals but the 12th-ranked Lord Jeffs (9-5) fell at home to the top-ranked Bantams (14-0).
Amherst 10, Elms 2 — Sarah McKay (two runs) was 3-for-3, while Kelsey Ayers (three RBIs, two runs), Kaitlin Silkowitz (two RBIs, run) and Donna Leet (three RBIs) each had two hits as the Lord Jeffs (23-11) won at home.
Leah Spring (run, RBI), of South Hadley, went 2-for-3 for the Blazers (9-18).
