Weekend planner — kids

The exhibit “Mo Willems: Don’t Pigeonhole Me!” opens with a reception Friday, 8-10 p.m., at R. Michelson Galleries in Northampton, but the scene of excitement for children is Saturday and Sunday at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst. That’s when a companion exhibit, “Seriously Silly: A Decade of Art and Whimsy by Mo Willems,” opens with “A Seriously Silly Celebration,” two days of storytelling, films, art activities and happenings centered around the children’s book author/illustrator and his creations.

Events run 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday, with a book signing by Willems set for Sunday beginning at 2 p.m. Events are free with museum admission, which is $9 adults; $6 students, teachers, seniors and youth under 18; $22.50 family (two adults, two youths). 658-1139, www.carlemuseum.org
