Luis E. Cartagena of Leeds arrested for hitting family members with hammer, sickle
NORTHAMPTON — A Leeds man was arrested Sunday afternoon after allegedly hitting both his brother and sister-in-law with a sickle and hammer.
Luis E. Cartagena, 56, of 432 Haydenville Road, was arrested at his home at 12:54 p.m. on two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, and two counts of domestic assault and battery.
Police said the three housemates got into an argument because one of them refused to turn down music. Cartagena then brought a sickle into the house and hit his brother’s wife in the face with the butt of the sickle. Police said he also hit both of them with a hammer and hit his brother with the sickle, a dish drainer full of dishes and his fists, police said.
Both victims declined medical treatment, police said.
