Cordis Bean of Florence pleads not guilty to assault charges

Cordis Bean of 491 Bridge Road, apt. 333, was arraigned in Northampton District Court on charges of aggravated assault and battery and domestic assault and battery.

Bean’s bail was set at $400 cash or $4,000 surety.

According to court records, police were summoned to Cooley Dickinson Hospital about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday to speak to Bean’s girlfriend, who was seeking treatment for injuries to her right hand and face.

The woman told police she and Bean had stopped at Sam’s Food Store on Pine Street, Florence to purchase a cigar, according to court records. She said when Bean returned to the car, he asked if she had a lighter. When she told him she didn’t, an argument began and Bean shoved the cigar in her mouth, according to a written statement from the victim.

She told police she bit his finger and he retaliated by grabbing her right hand from the gear shift, bending her fingers backward, breaking two of them, according to her statement.

The pair drove back to her house, where Bean allegedly punched the woman in the right side of her face, according to court records. She fled the car and Bean left the area, according to the statement.

Bean was arrested about 9:18 a.m. Wednesday, according to Northampton Police.

He is due to appear in court again on Jan. 16 for a pre-trial hearing.
