Northampton bicyclist injured after collision with car at Grove and Earle streets

NORTHAMPTON — A bicyclist suffered a broken leg after police said his bike collided with a car shortly after 3:30 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Grove and Earle streets.

Police said Joel Albino, 38, of Main Street, was riding his bike on the bike path when he crossed its intersection at Grove and Earle, colliding with a car. The car was driven by Kirsten Cirincione, 43, of Woodland Drive, Florence, who told police she had stopped at a stop sign and looked in all directions but did not see Albino in the crosswalk.

No charges were filed in connection with the accident.

The police report included mention of high grass on the west side of the bike path where Albino was crossing.

Police said Albino was taken to Cooley Dickinson Hospital following the crash, where he was treated and released, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Police said a second cyclist suffered a minor leg injury in a different accident Tuesday afternoon.

Frederick Jones, 52, of Northampton, was standing next to his bike waiting for a bus on Barrett Street about 4:23 when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Daniel Munks, 60, of Westhampton.

Jones refused medical attention. Munks was cited for failure to use care in turning, police said.
