Tuesday’s high school baseball: Amherst rallies to beat Holyoke, inch closer to postseason

The Amherst Regional baseball team scored seven times in the bottom of the sixth to defeat Holyoke 12-7 on Tuesday afternoon and move within one win of qualifying for the postseason.

Ty Peake (two stolen bases, run) singled in the game-winning tally, then Django Ellenhorn (two hits, four RBIs) gave the Hurricanes (9-2) some insurance with a three-run triple. Jack Schrader (run) started the inning with a hit, then had an RBI single for the final run.

Justin Carey (two stolen bases), Jamie Carey (two RBIs) and Angelo Fabozzi (triple) scored two runs apiece in the victory.

Alec Snyder-Fair improved to 4-0 on the mound. He allowed six runs on eight hits with four strikeouts over eight innings. Justin Carey pitched a scoreless seventh in his first varsity pitching appearance.

Central 6, Northampton 2 — David Konowitch doubled home both runs in the sixth inning for the Blue Devils (5-6, 1-1 Suburban) in the road defeat.

Zack Goodwin-Boyd had two hits and scored a run for Hamp, while R.J. Ramsden and Jefferson Willis also picked up a hit apiece. Ben Christopher scored a run in the loss.

Gateway Regional 17, Smith Vocational 1 (6) — James DeGray struck out 11 and allowed one unearned run on five hits as the Gators (6-5) cruised to the mercy-rule shortened win at Arcanum Field.

Brett Turban finished with three hits and had three runs in the victory, while John Haskell added two hits, including a triple, and scored four times.

DeGray helped himself with two hits and a run scored.

Jason Talbot had two hits, including a triple, and scored the lone run for the Vikings (0-9) in the sixth.

Ludlow 14, South Hadley 13 — The Tigers (1-9, 0-2 Suburban) scored six runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game, then allowed the walk-off run in the bottom half.

Joe Ciolek hit a home run and drove in three for South Hadley. Pedro Santiago had five hits and two RBIs, while Sean O’Connor had four hits and three RBIs with Liam Medina adding three hits.

Palmer 11, Holyoke Catholic 2 — Nick Limoges had a two-run homer in the fourth but the Panthers’ 7-0 lead was too much to overcome as the Gaels (1-9) fell at home.

Tom Heavren and Nick Murray each singled in the loss.

Chicopee Comp 10, Belchertown 3 — The Orioles (2-9, 0-1 Suburban) allowed seven runs in the second and third innings as they opened league play with the road loss.

Eric Adzima (RBI), Nick Leduc, Aidan O’Brien, James Ryan and Tommy Daley each had a hit for Belchertown. Jim Kusnierz struck out four in four innings.
