Northampton scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning to eke out a 12-11 come-from-behind win over Sutton in their first game of pool play in the Cal Ripken 9-and-under state tournament Friday at the Dan Duquette Sports Academy in Hinsdale.

Trailing 11-10 with one out, Alex Houck doubled, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored when Dallas Elliot doubled down the left-field line. Elliott (4-for-4, home run) moved to third on one throwing error and scored the winning run on another.

Nate Kelleher-Mochak earned the win with two scoreless innings in relief, for Hamp, which plays Narragansett, Saturday at 1 p.m. and Marlborough, Sunday at 11 a.m.

Williamstown 9, Frontier 3 — Gehrig Brynda went 3-for-3 with an RBI, but Frontier dropped its opener of the state tournament in Hinsdale.

Kyle Barnes was 2-for-3 in the loss, while Dylan Martin and Matt Como added a single apiece.

Max Edwards pitched well in relief for Frontier, which plays Hudson (11 a.m.) and Pepperell (3 p.m.) Saturday and Douglas (11 a.m.) Sunday.

Mickey Mantle

South Hadley 6, Easthampton 2 — Adam Pilochowski threw five scoreless innings, struck out nine and walked one in South Hadley’s win on the road. Pilochowski also went 2-for-2 and scored two runs.

James Foley (2-for-3) and Mario Oliveira (2-for-4) each had two RBIs for South Hadley (4-13). Brian Bak went 2-for-4 and scored two runs while Colin Paleologopoulos and Foley each scored one.

Dakota Wheeler went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Easthampton (4-14). Zach Crisafulli and Hunter Leveille each scored a run while Steven Ranney, Josh Ruer and Brandon Dennett each had a hit.

American Legion

Amherst 6, Wilbraham 3 — Tim Knightly fired a complete-game five-hitter and struck out eight as Post 148 (6-12) earned the road win.

Alec Snyder-Fair (run) had two hits for Amherst. Evan Delaney (two RBIs, run), Knightly (run), Tim Pruner (run), Asher Young (run) and Jamie Carey added a hit apiece.
