Monday’s high school softball: Hampshire rolls past Pioneer Regional

The Hampshire Regional softball team scored seven times in the bottom of the first and rolled to a 16-2 five-inning victory over Pioneer Regional in Westhampton Monday.

Brie Weltlich led Hampshire (14-1, 13-1 Franklin) with four hits, including a three-run home run and drove in four runs.

Marissa McCarthy (two RBIs) and Danielle McGan (RBI) each had two hits, while Savannah Waters had two hits and scored twice.

Ashlee McGan struck out six and worked around five hits and no walks in 51∕3 to earn the win.

Turners Falls 16, Hopkins Academy 0 — Nicole Morrison (single, double) had two of four hits for the Golden Hawks (5-10, 4-10 Franklin) in the home loss.

Savannah Ring and Jera Barrett each added a single for Hopkins, while Peyton Ring struck out three in a complete game in her varsity debut.

Granby 7, Holyoke Catholic 0 — The Rams (12-5) scored two runs in the second and five in the fifth to take the game on the road against the Gaels (5-11).

Each Granby player had at least a hit, with Kate Sullivan contributing two. Rams pitcher Tessa Cote struck out seven and walked three in the win, while Gaels pitcher Megan Logan struck out seven and walked two.

Smith Academy 23, Ware 10 — Cassidy Snyder had two home runs and four RBIs to lead the Falcons past the Indians in Ware.

Miranda Wendolowski (three RBIs) Olivia Shaw-Merrigan (two RBIs) and Alana Mclear (two RBIs) each had two hits for Smith (7-10).

Easthampton 21, Gateway 1 (5) — After a scoreless first inning the Eagles’ bats came to life as they rolled past the Gators on the road.

Kelly Avard (five RBIs) had a grand slam, while Rachel Connell had three hits, four runs and an RBI for Easthampton (13-4, 8-1 Bi-County West). Kayla McFarland had two hits, two runs and two RBIs.

Becca Wolfe had two hits for Gateway, while Jesse Walton had a hit and scored the lone run.

Frontier Regional 10, Mohawk 1 — Cassidy Stankowski had two triples for the Red Hawks (13-5) and McKayla Poissant struck out five for the win.

Northampton 8, Amherst 3 — Mary Greco went 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs and earned the win on the mound as the Blue Devils (12-7) beat their rivals on the road.

Jazzy Moonstone went 2-for-3 and Haley Parker added a triple for the Hurricanes (4-14).
