Thursday’s high schools: Hopkins Academy slips past Palmer in boys soccer

Evan Delaney scored on a breakaway in the 65th minute to lift the Hopkins Academy boys soccer team to its 10th win of the season, a 3-2 victory over Palmer at home Thursday.

Tyler Szymkowicz and Tim Hanlon also scored goals for the Golden Hawks (10-1-1), while Brennan Mitrolka was credited with two assists, including on the game winner.

Connor Quinlin also had an assist.

Ben Pitta made four saves.

Hampshire Regional 1, Easthampton 1 — Sam Godin scored in the 80th minute as the Eagles (0-9-1) earned their first point of the season against their rival Raiders (4-0-4).

Danny Buri assisted on the play, crossing the ball from the corner to Godin, who was making a run to the far post.

Bryan Brasil scored an unassisted goal in the first half for Hampshire.

Brady Parker made 10 saves for Easthampton, while Ben Preston had four for Hampshire.

South Hadley 4, Sabis 2 — A.J. Mercer had a goal and two assists to lead the Tigers (6-6-1) to the road victory.

Alex Dragon scored with an assist for South Hadley, while Cam Della Torre and Alex Ziomek had a goal each.

Christian Zuchowski made eight saves in the win.

Granby 3, Mohawk 1 — Teddy Roberts, Noah Parent and Conor O’Shea each contributed a goal for a Rams (5-6-1) win.

Bobby Cavette, Doug L’Abbee and Zach Funk each had one assist. Keeper Brett Sullivan made four saves.

Belchertown 7, Taconic 0 — The Orioles (9-2) made the trip to Pittsfield and returned with a win and a Division 3 tournament berth.

Alex DeSantis put in four goals, while Nick Drost (assist), Noah Lussier and Chris Noga added a tally each.

Cam Messier and Kyle Gadoury assisted once apiece, while Lewis Berger and Connor Curtain each made three saves.

Gateway 3, Greenfield 0 — Curtis Dowers, Jake Merritt and Denver Yost scored goals to put the Gators (8-2-1) on top in a match on the road.

Merritt, Calvin Dowers and Austin Herman had assists.

Mike Arel made five saves for a shutout.

Smith Academy 0, Pioneer Regional 0 — Keeper Cam Woodward made four saves in a solid defensive game for the Falcons (6-1-3) but no offense was achieved.

Frontier Regional 0, Monson 0 — Dylan Husted made 10 saves as the Red Hawks (5-3-1) earned a point at home.

Holyoke Catholic 1, Mahar 0 — Ryan Lukomski scored a goal from John O’Hara to secure a win for the Gaels (6-3-2) on the road.

Tom Heavren made six saves for a shutout.

Girls soccer

Amherst Regional 2, Mahar Regional 0 — Freshman Sage DeChiara scored one goal in each half and now has 13 on the season as the Hurricanes (5-3-2) kept rolling at home.

Madison Fluekiger and Taylor Bartmon were each credited with an assist for Amherst, which is 5-0-1 in its last six games.

Becca Carkhuff made seven saves for the team’s second shutout in as many days.

Belchertown 4, Longmeadow 0 — Jackie Soucia scored twice while Kayla Henry and Brittany Moreau added one each for the Orioles (10-0) at home.

Breanne Moreau (two assists), Bryanna Veroneau and Jillian Cavanaugh contributed assists.

Sarah Laclair and Ashley Cavanaugh each had one save for the shutout.

East Longmeadow 3, Northampton 0 — Rose Katz-Berger made eight saves for the Blue Devils (3-6-3) in a match on the road.

Southwick 1, South Hadley 0 — Abby Lukasik made 12 saves but the Tigers (5-4-2) fell at home.

Girls volleyball

Amherst 3, Tantasqua 0 — Justine Bohl had 26 assists, seven digs and five aces as the Hurricanes (9-2) won 25-20, 25-19, 25-21 won at home.

Shaya Shally-Jensen put up 16 kills and Ali Ziomek had six with 11 digs. Caroline Jones had three kills, three aces and six digs.

Sabis 3, Easthampton 0 — Caitlin Mottor had five kills, three digs and one ace, but the Eagles (3-7) lost 25-12, 32-30, 25-21 in Springfield.

Hajar Akanour had three kills and four digs, while Ruthenee Nhem added six assists, seven digs and one ace.
