Robert Pyers of Florence resigns from job as Greenfield economic development director

GREENFIELD — The town’s economic development director has resigned effective at 5 p.m. Feb. 2, and the mayor said Friday he is taking some responsibility for that decision. Robert Pyers, 63, of Florence, who has been in the position since July 7, 2009, gave his letter of resignation to the town late Thursday, saying he plans to retire. He has been on paid administrative leave since Jan. 13. According to Dennis Helmus, the town’s human resources director who lives in Northampton, the paid leave ended Friday at 5 p.m. — at about the same time an internal investigation of Pyers ended.
