Roger Salloom concert to benefit cystic fibrosis research

Roger Salloom’s third annual Music and Moonlight Concert and Dance will take place Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Garden House at Look Park in Florence.

Salloom and his band will share the stage with Grammy Award winner Charles Neville, a New Orleans-raised saxophone player who now lives in Huntington. Northampton singer Jessica Freeman will also perform.

A portion of the proceeds from the concert will help fund research for a cure for cystic fibrosis.

“It’s a personal one for me,” Salloom said in a phone interview Wednesday. “My granddaughter Ella has cystic fibrosis. Up until 10 years ago it was absolutely, certainly deadly and now there are people living long natural lives because of research and development.”

This is the third concert Salloom has performed at the Garden House to support the cause.

Salloom has played across the country with big-name artists, including Van Morrison and Santana, and for the past several years, has performed widely throughout the Pioneer Valley.

Neville is a member of the Neville Brothers band, and has performed with well-known blues musicians throughout his career, including B.B. King and Jimmy Reed.

Freeman was a featured vocalist at the 2012 Northampton Jazz Festival, and shared the stage with Neville in 2011 at the Snug Harbor jazz venue during the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

Salloom and his band will perform a melting pot of jazz, rhythm & blues, folk and rock ‘n’ roll. Dancing is encouraged.

Tickets cost $20 in advance; $22 at the door. Tickets are available at Serio’s Market in Northampton or online at www.rogersalloom.com and click on “live.” For information, call 584-5457.
