DEERFIELD —

CAREGIVERS — Essential Skills for Family Caregivers, a series about caring for those with dementia, continues Oct. 16 at South County Senior Center; the topic will be Understanding Behaviors. The third session, Safety at Home, will be Oct. 30. The series, presented by Melissa Grenier, a social worker with the Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, provides education and practical tools to those caring for someone with dementia; improving day-to-day living and overall quality of life is the goal. SUPPORT GROUP — Living Fully, Aging Gracefully and Befriending Death is a free group now meeting every other Monday night at the South County Senior Center, through April. The group will offer a supportive environment to discuss such topics as the joys and challenges of aging, dealing with grief and loss, and reaching a deeper understanding and acceptance of death. The facilitator is John Berkowitz of Northampton; for more information contact Berkowitz at 325-4533.

FLU CLINIC — A clinic will be held at the South County Senior Center on Oct. 15 from 9 to 11 a.m.

EMERGENCY PLANNING e_SEmD A community education workshop designed to teach people about preparing for emergencies will be held Oct. 16 from 10:45 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. at the Senior Center. The workshop will cover such issues as communication, medication planning, coping with health issues in a shelter or evacuation situation, and dealing with the impacts of power outages.

BREAKFAST — Outreach breakfast program for Northampton seniors over 60 takes place Oct. 16 at 9 a.m.

WISDOM PROJECT — Meets Oct. 17 at 10 a.m.

POETRY — The poetry writing class meets Oct. 18 at 10 a.m.

BOWLING — Oct. 18, 12:30 p.m.

TAI CHI — A free demonstration of Tai Chi Wing Chun- style will be held Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. , led by Linda Peck, who has been studying the Wing Chun style for more than 10 years. The demonstration will show what is involved in the program that will held Nov. 6, 13 and 20 from 7 to 8 p.m. The cost is $30 for Northampton seniors, and $38 for those 55-59 and non-residents. The registration deadline is Nov. 1.

HALLOWEEN — Party takes place Oct. 31 from 1 to 3 p.m. for seniors 55 and over. Prizes awarded for scariest, funniest and cutest costumes. Live music, refreshments. Free with scan card, $2 without. To register call 587-1228.
