Summer sports: Northampton falls in 12-and-under Cal Ripken state final; advances to New Englands

The Northampton Cal Ripken 12-and-under team rallied late, but fell 6-4 to Hudson in the state finals Tuesday in Sutton.
Northampton trailed Hudson 6-2 in the top of the sixth when Devin Kellogg hit a two-run home run, his sixth of the tournament. Hudson pitcher Sam Stout retired the next two batters, however, to secure the championship.
Northampton scored two runs in the first inning. Nick Heafey and Matt Bouley singled to start the game and scored on Nolan Zusi’s RBI single.
Andy Grygorcewicz pitched the first three innings and allowed four runs. Zusi allowed two runs in two innings of relief.
Northampton advanced to the championship following a 7-6 win over Milford Monday night.
Northampton and Hudson will compete in the New England Regional tournament beginning July 19 in New Milford, Conn.
Frontier Regional 11, Easthampton 6 — Tim Hoar went 2-for-4 and drove in a run for Frontier (5-6) in the win at Booster Field in Easthampton.
Cody Cleveland had a hit and two RBIs in the victory, while Tim Hoar and Connor Zabko added a hit and an RBI apiece.
Four pitchers combined for nine strikeouts.
Dakota Wheeler and Jamie Ryan each had two hits for Easthampton (3-10).
Easthampton 5, Amherst 4 — Alyssa Jasak’s single in the top of the seventh scored Melanie Fasoli with the winning run for Easthampton (8-1) .
Sarah Munier scored two runs while Ally Hamelin hit an RBI double and scored a run for Amherst (4-5-1).
Bay State Games Softball
West 12, Coastal 0; West 7, Metro 4; Northeast 5, West 1 — Emilie Baldwin of Florence had a total of four hits and four RBIs as West (3-1) won two of its three games at Veterans Memorial Athletic Complex in Waltham.
Baldwin had two hits, including double, one run and two RBIs in the opener against Coastal.
She then had the go-ahead two-run pinch-hit single in the sixth inning against Metro before driving in the lone run on an RBI double against Northeast.
Bri Weltlich of Southampton added two hits, one run and RBI against Coastal, while Jazzy Moonstone of Amherst added one hit, one run and one RBI.
West came back from an early 4-2 deficit to beat Metro and give Madeline Spencer-Orrell of Florence a victory in the circle.
Krista Jasak of Ludlow, who plays at Holyoke Catholic, had one hit, one run and one RBI.
West will play in the semifinals Wednesday at 11 a.m. with a spot in the 2:30 title game on the line.
West 8, Metro 7 — David Longstreeth of Hatfield delivered a walk-off hit as West (2-0) rallied with three runs in the bottom of the seventh at Bentley University in Waltham.
The Smith Academy rising junior went 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
