Local baseball/softball: Hamp Ripken advances to state final

The Northampton Cal Ripken 9-and-under baseball team continued its perfect run into Monday night’s state final with three victories over the weekend.

Hamp (4-0) defeated Douglas 8-2 Sunday afternoon in the state semifinal and will face Hudson at 6 p.m. Monday in Westminster.

Otis Follet earned the win on the mound in all three contests, with help from reliever Dominic Badorini.

Northampton 8, Douglas 2 — Follet (two hits allowed, two strikeouts) and Badorini (one hit, 5 Ks) each threw three strong innings Sunday afternoon.

Quinn McDonald went 2 for 3 and was the only multiple hitter for Hamp.

Northampton 13, Lanesboro 0 (4) — Follet (no hits allowed, four Ks) and Badorini (three Ks) each pitched two innings to earn the mercy-shortened shutout Sunday morning.

Follet, Badorini, Colin Larson and Hudson Fulcher-Melendy had two hits apiece for Hamp, which finished pool play at 3-0.

Northampton 12, Sutton 3 — James Elliott had two hits and scored a run for Hamp in the win Saturday.

Will Hogan, Badorini and Brady McDonald scored twice apiece in support of winning pitcher Follet (three innings, one hit, 2Ks). Badorini also allowed a single hit with five strikeouts in three innings.

Cal Ripken (11-and-under)

Over the weekend, Hadley went 3-1 in pool play at the state tournament and will play Northbridge in the semifinals Monday at 6 p.m. in Uxbridge.

Hadley 12, Douglas 2 — Justin Masteralexis had two hits, including a grand slam, and drove in five runs. Colin Earle added two hits, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Hadley 13, Uxbridge 2 — Masteralexis hit another grand slam plus a three-run homer, part of a 4 for 4, nine-RBI game.

He also pitched three scoreless innings.

Noah Scanlon Dean added two hits, three runs scored, while Jack Feltovic was 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs.

Hadley 5, Hudson 1 — Noah Scanlon Dean pitched six innings with seven strikeouts in the win.

Christopher Mushenski and Kouji Ishida had big hits in the fifth inning to give Hadley a 4-0 lead.

Upton 12, Hadley 6 — Nick Foster launched a three-run homer for Hadley in its only loss.

A Division

Springfield Indians 11, Northampton 3 — Everett Warner had two hits and drove in all three runs, but Hamp (28-2) was eliminated with the semifinal loss Saturday.

Devin Kellogg had two hits and Andy Grygorcewicz one in the loss.

Northampton 6, Longmeadow 0 — Tim Fay threw a complete-game 4-hitter in Saturday’s pool play win.

Fay struck out five and only walked one.

Matt Zuchowski had a single and a double with two runs scored. Andrew Elliott Wills cleared the bases with double, while Jordan Washburn and Warner also contributed big hits.

Shortstop Kellogg turned in several key defensive plays.

B Division

South Hadley 10, Rockhounds Buehrle 2 — With the easy win Sunday night, South Hadley advanced to the championship game against Belchertown Monday at 7 p.m. at Legion Field in Palmer.

Evan Levrault went 3 for 4, drove in two runs and scored two more in the win. Jarrett Sudyka had two hits, two runs and an RBI, while David Adams (run, RBI) and Benjamin Chevrette (two runs) added a hit.

Jacob Roux allowed two earned runs with seven strikeouts in six innings.

South Hadley 5, Amesbury 3 — Adams allowed three runs on five hits in going the distance Sunday.

Braden Fogarty went 3 for 4 with two runs and an RBI in the win. Levrault (RBI) and Adams (run) added two hits each.

Belchertown 4, South Hadley 3 — Adams drove in two on a hit for South Hadley Sunday.

South Hadley 5, Rockhounds Buehrle 3 — Levrault allowed one earned run with eight strikeouts in a complete-game effort, and also knocked in two runs on a pair of hits for South Hadley Saturday.

Sudyka also had two hits with a run and an RBI.

South Hadley 13, Rockhounds Teggeren 5 (5) — Levrault went 2 for 2 with three RBIs and three runs scored for South Hadley Saturday.

Drew Foley had two hits and drove in four runs, while Adams (three runs, two RBIs) had three hits and Nate McClure (two runs), Sudyka (four runs, RBI), and Sean Doyle (run) added two apiece.

American Legion

District Playoffs, Round 3

Ludlow 13, Amherst 3 — After winning its first three postseason games, Post 148 (11-12) dropped its second straight Saturday on the road to see the season end.

Jamie Carey led Amherst with three hits and scored two runs. Zach Kelley (two-run double) and Selah Dalomba each had two hits, while Sam Johnston added an RBI single.

Mickey Mantle

Northampton 5, Greenfield 2 — Jesse Carlino Threlfall went the distance, tossing a 5-hitter with three strikeouts as Northampton (14-5) won on the road Saturday.

At the plate, Carlino Threlfall singled, doubled and scored twice.

John Ferrara (two runs, RBI) and Ian Ostberg (RBI) each had three hits for Hamp. Cody Cleveland and Hector DeJesus added an RBI hit apiece.

Deerfield 10, Easthampton 0 (5) — Nate Patterson gave up one hit and struck out four over four shutout innings as Deerfield (16-2) won easily at home Saturday.

Brian Shaw went 3 for 4 and drove in three runs for Deerfield. Derek Zewinski (run) and Kade Gewanter each added a double and an RBI.

Tyler Vishaway had the only hit for Easthampton (8-12), a single in the first inning.

Metro Softball

Easthampton 15, Deerfield 1; Easthampton 7, Deerfield 3 — In Game 1, Savannah Cavanaugh struck out 15 in a 1-hitter, and went 4 for 5 with two doubles and two runs scored for Easthampton (17-0).

Haley McFarland also was 4 for 5, Rachel Connell 3 for 5 and scored three runs, while Gabby Downer added two hits and two runs.

In Game 2, Summer Cavanaugh earned the win, fanning seven and scattering seven hits.

Connell, Savannah Cavanaugh, Summer Cavanugh (triple), Kelly Avard each had two hits.
