Hilltown Voices: Chesterfield blueberry farm wraps up season after battling invasive fly

For the last couple of years Bruce Roberts, owner of Roberts Blueberry Farm at 220 South Street in Chesterfield, has had to end his season early due to damage done by a newly introduced fruit fly. This year the farm has made a bit of a come back and is offering a good selection of blueberries still ready for picking. “I would say that if people can come before Labor Day, they will be guaranteed a fair quantity of blueberries,” Roberts said on Thursday afternoon after showing his fields. “Towards the end of the season there is also a more universal sweetness to the berries.” The destructive fly in question is the Spotted Wing Drosophila …
