Monday’s high schools: Belchertown boys soccer stays undefeated
Alex DeSantis had a foot in both goals as the Belchertown boys soccer team remained perfect with a 2-0 win over Palmer at home Monday.
Nate Fournier also scored once, while Mark Chmura was credited with an assist for the Orioles (8-0-0).
Zachary Parsons made three saves for the team’s seventh shutout of the season.
Hopkins Academy 1, Westfield 1 — Tim Knightly scored on a header off a Brennan Mitrolka assist with 18 minutes remaining as the Division 3 Golden Hawks (9-1-1) earned a point against the Division 1 Bombers (1-3-5) in Westfield.
Benn Pitta made five saves for Hopkins.
Holyoke Catholic 2, Granby 2 — Trevor Lewicki scored two goals for the Gaels and Malcom Muguku had a goal and an assist for the Rams as the former Route 202 neighbors played to a draw at Rivers Park in Chicopee.
John O’Hara assisted Lewicki’s second goal and Tom Heavren made seven saves for Catholic (5-3-3).
Andrew Strycharz had a goal and Harrison Lussier had an assist for Granby (4-3-3).
Brett Sullivan made nine saves for the Rams.
West Springfield 1, South Hadley 0 — The Terriers (5-0-5) scored with 30 seconds left to snap the Tigers’ six-game winning streak on the road.
South Hadley (7-3-2) lost despite a strong performance by center midfielder Mike Paleologopoulus in front of Eric Maryea (seven saves).
Field Hockey
South Hadley 1, Palmer 1 — Merry Kocot’s goal from Dominique Wilkins gave the Tigers a first-half lead, but they couldn’t hold it and settled for a tie on the road.
Liz Menard made 11 saves for the Tigers (1-7-2, 1-2-1 Central).
Longmeadow 3, Smith Academy 0 — Lauren Bradford made 19 saves for the Falcons (6-3-3) in the loss at Smith College.
The defeat snapped a five-game unbeaten streak for Smith Academy, which suffered its last loss at Longmeadow 1-0 on Sept. 20.
