Weekend colleges: UMass women’s soccer tops Lamar in double overtime
Underclassmen gave the University of Massachusetts women’s soccer team a big lift Sunday.
Freshman Sarah Pandolfi scored in the 105th minute to give UMass a come-from-behind 2-1 win in double overtime over Lamar in Tomball, Texas, Sunday.
Freshman Daniela Alvarez scored at the end of the first half to tie the game 1-1 for the Minutewomen (2-4-1).
Redshirt freshman Danielle Kriscenski made four saves for UMass, while sophomore Jackie Bruno, Pandolfi and senior Lauren Skesavage each had one assist.
Amherst 0, Bowdoin 0 — Holly Burwick made five saves for the Lord Jeffs Saturday.
Endicott 5, Smith College 0 — Alanna Lynch made seven saves but the Pioneers (2-2) fell Saturday.
Mount Holyoke 5, Southern Vermont 1 — Ashleigh Hartsock, Syry Mitchell (Amherst), Hannah Yee (Amherst), Kara Singleton and Autumn Buck each scored as the Lyons (3-1) rolled Saturday.
Amherst 3, Bowdoin 0 — Ben Norton, Greg Singer and Bubba Van Wie each scored as the Lord Jeffs (4-0) won at home Saturday.
Elms 8, Lyndon State 0 — Scott Labrie (Southampton) scored a goal as the Blazers (2-2) won Saturday.
Dartmouth 2, UMass 0 — Nick Ruiz made five saves but the Minutemen (0-5-1) fell on the road Sunday.
Endicott 3, Keene State 2 — Eddie Mercer (South Hadley) scored for the Owls (0-5), who fell to James Mercer, Eddie’s older brother, and the Gulls (4-3).
UMass 1, Ohio State 0 — Brooke Sabia scored and Sam Carlino made four saves as the seventh-ranked Minutewomen (6-1) won in Syracuse, N.Y.
Elms 3, Rivier 2 — Kayla Narey (South Hadley) scored from Meghan Goodrow (Sunderland) as the Blazers (1-4) won at home Saturday.
Mount Holyoke 8, Western New England 0 — Kirsten Kilburn had four goals and two assists as the Lyons (5-0) rolled Saturday.
Amherst 4, Bowdoin 2 — Annika Nygren had two goals, while Katie Paolano had a goal and an assist as the Lord Jeffs (1-2) won Saturday.
Salem State 3, Western Connecticut 1 — Michaela Boyer (South Hadley) made five saves for the win Saturday.
Western New England 3, Smith College 1; Smith College 3, Lasell 1 — Rosa Drummond had 19 total kills, and Mei-Li Smith had 17 kills as the Pioneers (6-1) split Saturday at home.
Amherst 3, Johnson & Wales 0; Amherst 3, Keene State 0 — Nicole Carter had 40 assists and 18 digs, and Nicole Gould added 19 kills as the Lord Jeffs (6-3) won a pair Saturday.
Mount Holyoke 3, Westfield State 0; Mount Holyoke 3, UMass-Dartmouth 0 — Athena Donta (Amherst) had 19 digs as the Lyons (8-0) won a pair Saturday.
Men’s cross country
UMass Invitational — Blake Croteau placed seventh overall to pace the third-place UMass.
Dan Crowley of Amherst College was fourth Saturday.
Women’s cross country
UMass Invitational — Rachel Hilliard was 12th and Natalie Mako, of South Deerfield, was 14th as UMass placed fourth Saturday.
Amherst College placed sixth.
Bruce Kirsh Cup — Dana Fry was second and Zoe Weizenbaum (Amherst) added a 56th finish as Mount Holyoke placed sixth Saturday at Franklin Pierce.
Duke Nelson Invitational — James Line finished sixth with a two-day score of 146 (74-72) as Amherst College placed 12th Sunday.
