Weekend planner — Film

A striking visual epic whose style has influenced directors from Sam Peckinpah and Martin Scorsese to George Lucas and Steven Spielberg (who called it a “miracle”), David Lean’s 1962 “Lawrence of Arabia” is among the handful of films that have to be seen on the big screen to be fully appreciated. No doubt this stands doubly true for Sony Pictures’ 50th anniversary digital restoration which — completed after a laborious four-year process of repairing and scanning the film’s over 320,000 frames — has been hailed as “stunning” and “breathtaking” (The New York Times).

See it tonight at a one-time screening at 7:30 at the Amherst Cinema, 28 Amity St., Amherst. Regular admission. www.amherstcinema.org
