Tax classification hearing to be held at Amherst Town Hall Monday
AMHERST — This year’s tax rate, which is expected to rise above $20 per $1,000 valuation, will be set by the Select Board Monday night.
The hearing begins at 6:45 p.m. in the Town Room at Town Hall.
Select Board Chairwoman Stephanie O’Keeffe said the hearing was originally scheduled for 6 p.m. at Town Hall, in case fall Town Meeting, held at the middle school, had not been completed. With Town Meeting having ended Wednesday, O’Keeffe will call the hearing to order at 6 p.m. to comply with the legal notice, before adjourning the hearing for 45 minutes.
The hearing will feature recommendations from the Board of Assessors and Principal Assessor David Burgess.
In an earlier interview, Burgess said the average assessed value for a residence will remain $319,300. The tax rate per $1,000 will increase from $19.74 last year to an estimated $20.39, Burgess said, with an increase in the average annual residential tax bill from $6,302 to $6,504.
