Amherst’s Forbasaw Nkamebo leads Westfield State past Mount Ida

Freshman Forbasaw Nkamebo of Amherst is off to a good start to her collegiate career at Westfield State University.

Nkamebo had 12 points and eight rebounds as the Owls cruised past Mount Ida 72-43 Tuesday in Westfield.

It’s the second time in three games Nkamebo reached double figures for WSU (2-1).

Smith College 80, Middlebury 47 — Rosa Drummond and Paulina Solis each had 15 points, while Devin Quattrocchi added 13 as the Pioneers (2-0) won at home.

Men’s hockey

Amherst 6, Westfield State 0 — The Lord Jeffs (3-0) led 2-0 after the first period en route to handing the Owls (6-1) their first loss of the season.

Johnny Van Siclen scored the first two goals, while Mike Rowbotham, Conor Brown, Elliot Bostrom and Jamie Hawkrigg each had one goal.

Dave Cunningham made 14 saves for the shutout.


Eric Yarrow of Easthampton signed a National Letter of Intent to play at Division II Florida Southern College.

The Williston Northampton senior plays with a 1 or 2 handicap.
