Incumbents, one newcomer, nominated at Pelham town caucus

Neither School Committee member Kathleen Mailhot nor Planning Board member John Bardzik are seeking re-election.

Andrew Lichtenberg was nominated to fill Bardzik’s seat, which has a five-year term. Mailhot’s position, a three-year term, will be filled by write-in votes.

Lichtenberg, as well as Mark Santos, who was nominated for another three-year term on the Select Board, had both filed nomination papers for their positions. The rest of the candidates were nominated from the floor.

Others running, all for three-year terms, are: Richard Rowell, Board of Assessors, Richard Hall, Board of Health, Darius Modestow, School Committee, Jonathan Woodbridge and Donald Verrastro, library trustees, Donald Shepard, Cemetery Commission, and Edward Fleury, Hampshire County Council of Governments.

David Golden was nominated for another one-year term as auditor and Daniel Robb for a one-year term as moderator.

Twenty-seven registered voters checked in at the caucus, meeting the 25 needed for the quorum.

Town clerk Kathleen Martell reminded voters that dog licenses expire on March 31 and that a current rabies certificate is required for a 2013 license. The state has imposed a $50 fee for dogs unlicensed after that date.

Martell also put out a call for poll workers for the election, which will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 4 at the Pelham Elementary School.

The primary election for the U.S. Senate race to fill Secretary of State John F. Kerry’s seat will take place April 30 at the Ramsdell Room in the library complex from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. To vote in this election, all residents must be registered to vote by April 10. The special election will follow on June 25, also in the Ramsdell Room from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. For this election, all voters must be registered by June 5.

Residents can register to vote at the town clerk’s office.
