Amherst man charged with cane assault — and other area police news
∎ Sixto W. Moscoso, 58, of Ware, was cited for failure to use care in stopping after the vehicle he was driving on College Street at Boltwood Avenue struck a second vehicle at 3:53 p.m. Sunday, police said.
Sonia Moscoso, 58, of Ware, a passenger in Sixto Moscoso’s vehicle, complained of neck pain and was taken by Amherst Fire Department ambulance to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton for treatment, police said.
∎ Russell Michael St. Andre, 50, of 497 East Pleasant St., Apt. 131, was arrested at 10:13 p.m. Sunday at a Village Park residence on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and carrying a dangerous weapon after he struck another person in the face with his cane. Police said they discovered later that a double-edged knife, which is illegal, was contained in the cane.
The victim was taken by Amherst Fire Department ambulance to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton for treatment of minor injuries, police said.
∎ Zamont H. Frenkelhassan, 38, of 336 North Pleasant St., Apt. GB, was arrested at 4:45 p.m. Sunday on North Pleasant Street on two warrants.
∎ Katelynn Rose Gagnon, 24, of 121 North Main St., Apt. C7, was arrested at 10:18 a.m. Friday at Clapp Memorial Library on a warrant.
∎ Aaron Reye Jenkins, 22, of Springfield, was arrested at 8:03 p.m. Nov. 13 at Lord Jeffery Apartments on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.
∎ Police received a report at 2:35 p.m. Monday that lawn furniture valued at about $100 was taken from in front of 19 Knipfer Ave.
∎ Police received a report at 11:33 a.m. Monday that a GPS device worth $150 and change were taken from an unlocked car parked at 64 South St.
∎ Steven J. Rosa, 39, of 55 Overlook Drive, Florence, was arrested following an accident on Holyoke Street at 1:23 p.m. Sunday on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, failing to stay within marked lanes, refusing to identify himself to police while operating a motor vehicle, and on a warrant.
Police said Rosa was traveling south where Cottage Street turns to Holyoke Street when he took corner too wide, and sideswiped a vehicle going the opposite way driven by Lary Grossman, 60, of 24 King St., Hatfield. Rosa initially gave responding officers a fake name, police said.
∎ Samuel Hayden Snelling, 49, of 35 Fruit St., Apt. A27, was arrested at 6:48 p.m. Monday at home on a charge of violating the conditions of a harassment prevention order.
∎ Luis Antonio Santiago, 33, whose address is listed as the streets of Northampton, was arrested at 4:03 p.m. Monday on a probation violation warrant issued by Greenfield District Court and two warrants issued by Northampton District Court related to failure to appear in court on charges of violating a restraining order and shoplifting.
∎ Police are investigating the reported theft of a 1997 Acura from the parking lot of Pheasant Hill Apartments on Barrett Street between 10 p.m. Sunday and 5 a.m. Monday.
∎ Michael Maldonado, 27, of Holyoke, was arrested at 12:43 a.m. Monday on State Street on charges of domestic assault and battery and resisting arrest after allegedly pushing a woman’s shoulder after an argument and being uncooperative with officers attempting to place him in custody.
∎ Devin Sumner Togneri, 25, of Turners Falls, was arrested at 12:01 a.m. Saturday on Commonwealth Avenue on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and failure to stop at a stop light.
