Amherst residents facing nearly $3,000 in fines for weekend parties
AMHERST — Two loud parties with underage people consuming alcohol and tenants refusing to cooperate with responding officers led police to issue fines over the weekend.
Detective David Foster said police went to 298 Belchertown Road Saturday at 12:14 a.m. where 300 people were gathered for a party. Most were inside, but some were on the lawn and in the road.
Four tenants were issued both noise and nuisance house bylaw tickets, Foster said. Cumulatively, these tickets will cost them $2,400. Police eventually sent the partygoers on their way.
Sunday at 12:52 a.m., police went to 7 Hobart Lane, where more than 50 people were attending a party. One man living there was issued a $300 nuisance house ticket after he wouldn’t help clear the residence, Foster said.
