Couple rescued by snowmobile Sunday from Granby section of Mount Holyoke Range State Park
GRANBY — A man and a woman who were snowshoeing Sunday afternoon in the Mount Holyoke Range State Park had to be rescued by members of the Granby Fire Department and a state park ranger on snowmobiles after they called for help on a cell phone.
“They had a medical issue and we went in and brought them out,” said Granby Fire Chief Russell Anderson. “They were up by the Horse Caves in the Notch area, which is about a 15- or 20-minute drive by snowmobile.”
Anderson declined to release names, addresses or additional details about the couple, who were hiking in the park around 3:15 p.m. He said they declined medical attention at the scene.
Anderson said the Amherst Fire Department provided one of the snowmobiles used to bring the pair out of the park. Ranger Peter Michaels of the state Department of Conservation and Recreation rode the other. The rescue took approximately two hours.
