No criminal charges in May crash that killed Hadley teenager Harry Delmolino

In a prepared statement, the DA’s office said the collision was “an unfortunate accident that did not involve criminal negligence.”

Northampton police and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section also were involved in the investigation.

A message left at the home of Delmolino’s family in Hadley was not immediately returned.

Delmolino was cycling east on Main Street when he was involved in the collision with a vehicle driven by Celso Avelar, 43, of Northampton, at the Pleasant Street intersection on May 19.

Delmolino, who authorities said was not wearing a helmet, was taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield where he succumbed to his injuries about three days later.

Delmolino was an Eagle Scout, earned an associate’s degree in computer science from Greenfield Community College at age 17, worked for the information technology department at Smith College and was a mechanic at Laughing Dog Bicycles in Amherst.
