Northampton woman arrested on drunken driving charges after two-car crash on I-91

No one was injured in the collision, which sent a Ford Expedition rolling over and down an embankment at around 9:30 p.m. Julia Neufeld of Olive Street in Northampton was arrested at the scene and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, a marked lanes violation, a breakdown lane violation and speeding.

An initial investigation by State Police found that Neufeld, who had two passengers in a Volkswagen Jetta, had been traveling behind a Ford Expedition driven by a 44-year-old Holyoke man who had a single passenger.

At one point Neufeld swerved from the left lane to the breakdown lane, and after leaving the breakdown lane struck the side of the Expedition, which then rolled over on the highway and down an embankment before hitting a tree, State Police said.

Holyoke firefighters and emergency medical workers also responded to the crash. Both drivers and all passengers refused medical treatment at the scene, police said.
