BLACK WARBLER

Whitaker Road, New Salem

Photograph and text by Betsy Pelz of New Salem

This is my first black-and-white warbler ever, not to mention that it is also the first warbler I’ve ever captured on camera. I went out alone at 5 p.m., armed with my DSLR camera and a telephoto zoom lens. What helped was the lovely late-day light. I had been standing still in the shade for some time, trying to capture a chipping sparrow — and then I noticed the black-and-white warbler.

Betsy Pelz is affiliated with the Robert Floyd Photo Gallery, 2 East St., Southampton. Other nature images are on view there Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 6 p.m.
