Andre Davis of Northampton arrested on drug charge after burglar alarm sounds
NORTHAMPTON — A tripped burglar alarm Sunday night led to the arrest of a Northampton man on vandalism and drug charges.
Andre Davis, 36, of 43 Center St., pleaded not guilty Monday in Northampton District Court to charges of possessing a Class B drug (cocaine, subsequent offense), vandalizing property and attempting to commit a crime.
Judge W. Michael Goggins held Davis on $1,000 cash bail or $10,000 personal surety.
According to police, a burglar alarm was tripped at the Wilson Services Inc. building at 474 Easthampton Road about 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Police said there had been a break-in at the building about 3½ hours earlier.
Police arrived and found Davis nearby. He was allegedly carrying a container with a small amount of a substance that tested positive for cocaine.
Police said they also found bits of broken glass in Davis’ backpack that were consistent with the glass broken out of one of the building’s windows.
Police said that Davis could not give a convincing explanation why he was near the building.
Davis is due back in court for a pre-trial hearing July 9.
