Southampton residents to select candidates for town office Thursday

Voters at the town caucus Thursday will be able to nominate candidates to be on the ballot for 22 positions at the annual elections in May.

Among the positions up for grabs in the election will be the Select Board seat currently occupied by Ann Roy and two seats on the Finance Committee.

A dozen candidates have filled out paperwork to be considered at Thursday’s caucus. Candidates can also be nominated from the caucus floor. At the end of the caucus, voters will cast a ballot for those nominated and anyone who receives at least 8 percent of the vote will be on the ballot at the May election.

The following residents have submitted paperwork to be considered for these positions: Elizabeth Moulton, for a seat on the Select Board; Melissa Kelly, for a seat on the School Committee; Ron Laurin, for re-election to the Board of Health; Robert Floyd, for re-election as moderator; William Curran, for re-election to the Hampshire Regional School Committee; Elizabeth Couture, for re-election to the Board of Almoners; David Garstka, for re-election as tree warden; Mark Reed, for re-election to the Park Commission; Tiffany Labrie, for a seat on the Planning Board; and Teresa Barton, Debra Pinsky and Alison Strolis for three of four available positions as library trustees.

Other vacancies include two seats on the Finance Committee and one seat each on the Personnel Policy and Procedure Board, the Water Commission, the Cemetery Commission and the Board of Assessors. Two positions — a one-year term and a five-year term — will be vacant on the Housing Authority. A three-year term as county councilor also has no nominees.

The caucus takes place at Town Hall at 210 College Highway from 7 to 9 p.m.
