Tyler Barcomb of Haydenville arrested on charges in Northampton Subway shop robbery

Tyler Barcomb, of 149 Main St., was arrested Tuesday on charges of unarmed robbery and malicious damage over $250.

According to a statement from police, an arrest warrant was issued for Barcomb on Tuesday. He was spotted by police on Pleasant Street in Northampton, where he was placed under arrest without incident.

According to police and Matthew Gorry, the clerk on duty who witnessed the crime, the suspect allegedly entered the restaurant Sunday evening asking for change for a $1 bill.

When Gorry opened the drawer, he said the robber went “almost berserk,” grabbed “fistfuls” of money out of the drawer, destroyed the cookie display on the counter, ran out the door and fled north on King Street, dropping some money behind him.

Gorry said the robbery seemed random and desperate, not planned.

No one was injured in the robbery, police said.

Barcomb’s bail was set at $5,000. He is expected to be arraigned today, according to police.
