Judges for the fourth annual Jaycee-ette Halloween window painting contest, postponed from last Friday because of the weather, were announced today by the co-chairmen, Mrs. Norman Fortier and Mrs. Alton Neal. On the completion of the paintings this afternoon, Mrs. Mervin Jules and Mrs. Marshall Schalk, both of Northampton, and Mrs. Merritt Loomis III, a former art supervisor in the Easthampton schools, will judge the paintings.

Two Northampton girls were formally invested as freshmen at Trinity College yesterday. They are Miss Maureen F. Reardon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William M. Reardon of 15 Stoddard St., and Miss Maureen A. Ryan, daughter of Judge and Mrs. Luke F. Ryan of 43 Dryads Green.

The Hampshire County Charter Commission last night approved a proposal that would replace the county commissioners with a larger board and a full-time administrator. The charter commission expects to complete its work Saturday and submit a report calling for stronger regional government to the Legislature’s Committee on Counties early next week.

Northampton High School’s new attendance and tardiness policy is working well, and has cut tardiness of students down from 7 percent to 3.5 percent. Principal Gordon L. Noseworthy and Vice Principal John D. Barry presented that welcome news to the curriculum subcommittee of the School Committee Monday night.

The sumptuous smells of gourmet cooking filled the air at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center Monday night, as about 350 people enjoyed the 13th annual Books & Cooks gala to benefit the Hampshire Community United Way.

A Springfield couple is opening a new restaurant, this one serving Argentinean fare, adding to the city’s already lengthy list of ethnic eateries. Caminito is scheduled to open in late November in the former digs of An Interior Affair at 7 Old South Street.
