Valley Bounty: Salad Greens
Cooler temperatures mean great local salads. Take your pick: spinach, lettuce, spicy mustards or a mild mesclun mix — they’re all available now and the variety makes it possible to have a different local salad every night of the week. Top your salad with roasted beets, grated carrots, sliced pears or sweet turnips, maple-sweetened nuts, chunks of cheese, garlicky croutons made from local bread or the last of the summer’s tomatoes and cucumbers.
