State Yo-Yo Contest at Eastworks Building in Easthampton Saturday

The event, put on by city businessman and national yo-yo master André Boulay, offers a total of $700 in cash prizes for the top three competitors and is open to youths and adults. It will also guest star national yo-yo champions and competitors from the Northeast.

An Easthampton yo-yo virtuoso will also be a judge at the contest. Eric Koloski of Easthampton is a previous champion of both state and national contests and was a semifinalist on the NBC show “America’s Got Talent.”

The event from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. is free for spectators, who should come at 2 p.m. to watch “the best of the best” compete, according to a press release from Boulay.

“The goal of the event is to give yo-yo players a chance to showcase their skills as well as introduce new people to just how amazing the modern yo-yo is today,” Boulay said in the press release.

He got his start with yo-yos at the A2Z Science & Learning Store in Northampton in 2000 and taught yo-yo classes there through 2008. He first put on the Massachusetts State Yo-Yo Contest in 2005 when he was a student at the University of Massachusetts.

He now runs an online yo-yo store and resource, YoYoExpert, with his wife in the Eastworks Building. The contest will be held in the first-floor event space near Riff’s Joint in the Eastworks Building at 116 Pleasant St.
