Andrew Chodorow: Won’t forget kindness shown at Amherst bike accident scene
To the editor:
I would like to acknowledge the kindness of passersby who helped me after a recent mishap. Two weeks ago, I had a bike accident on Pine Street in the Cushman area of Amherst, fracturing my elbow and sustaining other lesser injuries.
Immediately after the accident, I heard cars stopping and people calling out to see if I was OK. When I replied that I wasn’t sure yet, there were suddenly people all around, trying to help.
One, a doctor, examined my injuries and advised me about what to do when I got home. Three young men (students?) checked out my bike and pronounced it undamaged.
A woman gave me and my bike a ride to my home. All of these people went out of their way to help a complete stranger. Their kindness is something which I will never forget.
