Deerfield to fill Select Board seat today

DEERFIELD — Residents today will vote in the first special town election in many years.

Political newcomer David Wolfram, 60, is running unopposed to finish the term vacated by Elizabeth Clarke, who resigned in May after serving two years.

Wolfram, a Deerfield native, works as a plant manager at Charter NEX Films in Turners Falls, overseeing a $26 million budget and 76 employees. He has worked at the manufacturing company for four years. Before that, he worked at the former Deerfield Plastics for 28 years.

He also served as a part-time police officer for 14 years in Deerfield, volunteered for 15 years as a firefighter for the South Deerfield Fire District and another 30 years as a volunteer Deerfield emergency medical technician.

Mary Stokarski, the town clerk, treasurer and collector, said she has worked for the town for 17 years and cannot recall another special election.

Voting is from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Deerfield Town Office, 8 Conway St.
