To the editor:

The picture above the fold on the front page of the Aug. 29 Gazette upsets me, even horrifies me.

As a retired kindergarten teacher, I wonder: where is the teacher? Why didn’t the mother and child visit school in advance as many times as necessary to make the boy feel comfortable? Why was anyone so insensitive as to take that photograph?

And why would anyone put it in the paper, thus exposing the poor child to continuing embarrassment, ridicule and bullying for the rest of his school career?

This whole episode is beyond my comprehension.

I loved this photo because it was so real and depicts what happens at every first day around the country. If the kid was neglected, standing there crying alone, it would have broken my heart. As it is, he is right where he should be, being comforted by his mother. Thanks for keeping it real, Gazette!

Judging by the bvery bfit state of both this boy's parents (in the follow up photos) this kid won't need to worry about being picked on.

wrap that kid in bubble-wrap! stat!

Give me a break

Maybe "horrifying" is not the word I would have chosen, but it was definitely in bad taste publishing this poor kid's name. My embarassing 5 year old pictures are in photo albums that even my most precocious peers could not get their cruel little hands on. Teddy's now belongs to the digital ages.

I agree with this letter in every way. Thank you for writing it.

Ai ya. Kids cry. Get over it.
