Five arraigned after arrests in downtown Northampton fights

Northampton Police Capt. Scott A. Savino said four officers from Easthampton and two or three state troopers assisted with crowd control outside Tully O’Reilly’s Pub and Union Station while fights were being broken up and arrests were made.

“A disturbance like this ties up every officer on the midnight shift, leaving the bulk of the city unattended,” Savino said.

According to police, those arrested were Gregory Dorman, 24, of Erving, disorderly conduct; Jesse Castellano, 25, of Holyoke, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assault and battery on a police officer; Susan Rivas, 26, of Springfield, disorderly conduct; Katie Bonnette, 23, of Turners Falls, disorderly conduct; and Jessica Badillo, 24, of Holyoke, disorderly conduct.

Police responded to a report of an unruly patron about 1 a.m. Sunday at Tully O’Reilly’s and were alerted to a fight inside the bar between Dorman and Castellano which officers broke up.

While Castellano was being placed into custody, he allegedly struggled with and grabbed the arresting officer, police said.

Shortly after that, officers responded to a second fight involving three women in the nearby Union Station parking lot, which led to the arrests of Rivas, Bonnette and Badillo, according to police.

All five were arraigned in Northampton District Court Monday.

Castellano was released on personal recognizance and is due back in court on July 17 for a pre-trial hearing. Badillo, Bonnette, Dorman and Rivas were each fined $150 and released.
