Northampton seeks volunteers for school superintendent search
NORTHAMPTON — The School Committee is seeking volunteers to serve on a search panel for a new schools chief to replace Brian Salzer, who is leaving the district in July after just under two years in the position.
Panel members will be working with the New England School Development Council, which is handling the superintendent search, to screen, interview and present finalists to the School Committee for consideration.
Members will be appointed by Mayor David J. Narkewicz in his role as committee chairman. Residents who served on the previous screening committee in 2011 are welcome to apply, he said.
The city superintendent’s job was posted June 4 for a negotiable start date and at a “regionally competitive salary.” The School Committee is looking for a superintendent who is “accomplished in strategic planning” and has experience with administration, fiscal management, consensus building and advocating for public education, according to the posting.
City residents interested in serving on the superintendent search panel must be available for meetings starting the third week in July and interviews during the month of August. A letter of interest can be sent to Northampton School Committee, Attn: Superintendent Screening Committee, 212 Main St., Northampton, MA 01060, or emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
