Man injured after riding bicycle off Amherst home’s roof

Amherst Fire Chief Walter “Tim” Nelson said that the man, who had a wrist injury and bumps and bruises, got onto the roof of 407 North Pleasant St., a house where several college-age people live, and was riding the bicycle shortly before 2 a.m. before falling 15 to 20 feet.

“The kid had a little too much to drink and thought it would be a good idea to ride on the roof,” Nelson said.

Nelson said an Amherst ambulance brought the unidentified man to Baystate as a precaution. When paramedics got to the scene of the accident, the man had applied a package of frozen peas to his wrist, he said.

The victim took full responsibility for his actions, Nelson said. “When we got there he was apologetic. He knew he’d pulled a dumb move.”

Around the same time, police found people at Puffer’s Pond consuming alcohol and jumping from the cliff into the water.

Police Detective David Foster said jumping from the rocks can be a hazard even during daylight, and is prohibited by town conservation staff. Police asked the people to leave the area, which they did.

Seriously? This "man" should have his name and face plastered all over the news. And who will be paying the bill for all the attention he got from police, Baystate, etc.? Taxpayers?
