Tuesday’s colleges: Tiffany Meeks hits four homers for UMass in doubleheader sweep of URI
Tiffany Meeks hit two home runs in both ends of the doubleheader as the University of Massachusetts softball team steamrolled Rhode Island, 7-0 and 10-0, Tuesday in Kingston, R.I.
Meeks finished with seven RBIs in the two games and has nine home runs this season for UMass (17-22, 11-7 Atlantic 10).
Teea Rogers, Katie Bettencourt and Lindsey Webster each had a home run for the Minutewomen. The power display was more than Caroline Raymond needed. She allowed one hit and four walks, while striking out two in Game 1. She gave up two hits, a walk and fanned six in the mercy-rule shortened second game.
UMass closes its regular season at home this weekend. It plays Butler at 3 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday. It has a noon doubleheader against Saint Louis on Sunday.
